“Every great dream begins with a dreamer.”
“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars, to change the world.”
– Harriet Tubman (1822 – 1913)
Pursuing a dream is a crucial element to awaken out of the normal and carve a custom-made adventure out of life. A dream is very similar to a mission but has a few specific characteristics that make the difference. For one, a dream feels less serious than a mission, and that supports our suspicious mind.
The dream in itself, regardless of the content we give it, has practical and psychological functions in the whole of the transformational process. All of these functions together firmly shape our “why?”. A dream starts by aiming up at a star, with both feet on the ground. A direction is only useful when we know where we are. This ground needs preparation, even before looking up. The vastness of a dark night sky can be overwhelming and discouraging.
Making a foundation out of the ground we’re standing on requires being properly informed and some fertilizing. Every adventure has its way of preparing, and that includes some reflection and homework. Although the adventure might take us to far-away places, all the preparation and the first steps can be taken from within the comfort of our own home.
With a first sense of clarity, we’re able to sketch out the first draft of our dream and translate it into practical intentions. These intentions will guide us once we made our engagement. The choices we make from this point onwards carve and shape our adventure.
But as the proverb goes,” the road to hell is paved with good intentions”, so to make it to our imagined destination, we’ll have to bring out the best in us. Much will depend on our ability to be flexible and to let go along the way. We’ll take our minds along on the journey, but at some point, we’ll have to leave it behind and follow our hearts; it’s where our dream resides.
Even though we describe our destination, and we should, we don’t really know where the adventure will lead us. After all, it is an exploration of the unknown. This journey is paved with challenges and gifts. The challenges call upon the best of us, and the gifts inspire us to keep going. Both seem to be in proportion and deepen our trust, which is the very essence of the foundation.
